Turkey-Egypt Join Hands to Save More Lives in Gaza (Press Release-11 October 2011)
An eight-day-old Palestinian baby boy Ahmad Mohamed Motlaq, and two weeks old Jana Tarek Zayed suffering from premature heart and lung formation, have been evacuated to Turkey for life-saving surgical operation with the help of the Government of Egypt on 11 October, 2011. The medical evacuation was conducted via Rafah Gate and Egypt’s Al Arish Airport in collaboration with Palestinian, Egyptian and Turkish Red Crescent societies by an ambulance plane sent by Turkish Ministry of Health in line with Turkish Prime Ministry’s directives. A third Palestinian baby suffering similar problems will be transferred today.
All three Palestinian children were accompanied by their parents who will subsequently be sent to Istanbul by Turkish Embassy in Cairo via scheduled flights, since ambulance aircraft couldn’t admit accompanying passengers.
The emergency evacuation has been organized by Turkish Embassy, Turkish Consulate General in Jerusalem and Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs with support and assistance of security and Red Crescent authorities at Al Rafah and Al Arish.
Turkish Embassy expresses its profound appreciation and thanks to the Government of Egypt for their effective humanitarian cooperation.
Turkish Ambassador Hüseyin Avni Botsalı said; “Every Palestinian baby, and actually all the children of the world deserve a stable peaceful, free and safe environment where they can receive adequate health and education.”
